About this site
soundlevelmeter.review is an independent reference database for professional acoustic instruments: handheld sound level meters and analysers, personal noise dosimeters and outdoor noise monitoring stations. It currently holds 114 instruments from 16 manufacturers. It is published by Geonoise Asia, an acoustic consultancy, and edited by acoustical engineers who use these instruments in their own work.
Why it exists
Choosing an instrument means reading a dozen datasheets written in a dozen formats, and the information that matters most after purchase, such as firmware problems, battery behaviour and how a manufacturer responds to a fault, is scattered across forums or not written down at all. This site puts every instrument into one specification template so that models can be compared line by line, and gives owners a place to record what the datasheet does not say.
How specifications are sourced and verified
Only the manufacturer’s own published material is used as a source: the product page, the datasheet, the manual, firmware release notes and press releases. Distributor pages and third-party reviews are not sources. Every instrument page lists the documents used, with the date each was read, and carries a “verified on” date. A value the manufacturer does not publish is left blank, never estimated. Prices appear only where the manufacturer itself publishes a list price.
A weekly watcher fetches each instrument’s product page, datasheet and firmware page and compares a fingerprint of the content with the previous week’s. When a document changes, the record is queued for a person to re-read it and update the specification; the verified-on date moves only after that review, so it reflects a human check and not an automated fetch.
Corrections are welcome from anyone, including manufacturers, at [email protected]. Every page has a “Spec out of date? Tell us” link that puts the instrument reference in the subject line. A correction is applied when it can be checked against a published document.
Verified owner reviews and issue tracker
Reviews, known-issue reports and feature requests open in November 2026. Until then the sections on each instrument page are placeholders. The rules will be:
- A real e-mail address is required. Free-mail domains are blocked, so a review is tied to an organisation.
- Ownership is proven with the instrument’s serial number, which is checked by a person against the manufacturer’s numbering and never published.
- The reviewer chooses what is displayed: name, organisation, country, or none of these. The verified-owner mark is shown in every case.
- Manufacturers may reply to an issue report under their own name; replies are marked as such.
- Reviews are not scored or ranked by the site, and no aggregate rating is published.
To be told when reviews open, write to [email protected] with the instrument you own. Your address is used for that one message and then deleted unless you create an account.
Ownership disclosure
soundlevelmeter.review is published by Geonoise Asia, an acoustic consultancy. Companies related to the publisher distribute instruments from some of the brands listed here. Every brand is listed on the same terms, with the same specification template and the same review rules, and no brand pays for placement. Paid brand profiles, when offered, are marked as such.
