Standards
The standards that appear on sound level meter, dosimeter and monitoring station datasheets, explained in plain terms: what each one specifies, what it leaves out, and how to read a conformance statement. Each page ends with a table of the instruments in the database whose manufacturer cites that standard, quoting the statement as the manufacturer makes it.
| Standard | Covers | Instruments citing it |
|---|---|---|
| IEC 61672-1Electroacoustics. Sound level meters. Part 1: Specifications | The sound level meter specification standard: classes, weightings, Leq, peak, group X and Z. | 95 |
| IEC 61260-1Electroacoustics. Octave-band and fractional-octave-band filters. Part 1: Specifications | The filter standard behind 1/1 and 1/3 octave analysis: classes, band designations, conforming instruments. | 60 |
| IEC 61252Electroacoustics. Specifications for personal sound exposure meters | The dosimeter standard: Pa²h and LEX, tolerances, how it relates to IEC 61672 and ANSI S1.25. | 26 |
| IEC 60268-16 (STIPA)Sound system equipment. Part 16: Objective rating of speech intelligibility by speech transmission index | Speech transmission index and the STIPA method, editions, and instruments that offer the option. | 20 |
| ISO 1996Acoustics. Description, measurement and assessment of environmental noise | Environmental noise description and measurement: descriptors, adjustments, uncertainty, tonality. | 9 |
| Pattern approvalType approval of sound level meters by national metrology institutes | Type approval by PTB, LNE, NMi, METAS and others: what it is, what it is not, who needs it. | 31 |
